Upcycled studded and gemmed light greenish yellow canvas Carhartt work pant with three “THUMBPRINT” prints to create the “MANTIS“ pant. The green dye’s yellow hue and tan thread around the hem makes me believe that this piece was originally tan, however, I found it this color at a local vintage store.
This design is a photo manipulation experiment printed on secondhand using plastisol ink in Pittsburgh, PA. In order to print such a large design, I had to open the pant at the inseam, print, and close the pant again. I then top stitched the inseam and riveted the cuffs to provide additional strength.
Each print is unique. Textures and inconsistencies highlight the pre-existing wear and/or human-touch that each piece now showcases.
The studs and green and yellow gems all throughout this piece were all intentionally placed and set by hand. I included an additional 10 gem rivets, metal rivet set, and leather base piece and 3 studs and screws in case you want to add more or keep them as backups.
